School Council

Stranmillis School Council 2011-11Each year the children vote for class representatives from P4 – P7 to form a School Council. During the year the Council members have encouraged their classmates to bring suggestions about a range of issues to the meetings.

This year we welcomed a new member of staff, Mr P. Arneill to assist with running the School Council. He has brought some fantastic ideas and great enthusiasm to the meetings.

At the beginning of the year the Council carried out a survey to find out about the children’s favourite soup flavours. They found that leek and potato and tomato were the two favourite soups.

The Council wrote a letter to Mrs. Gillan in the kitchen and asked if these flavours could be added. The suggestions were welcomed by Mrs. Gillan, and the extra soups have been included in the school dinners menu.

In December, the Council helped to organise a themed “Sportmillis” day to raise funds for The Northern Ireland’s ChildrenTo Lapland Trust. The children were asked to dress up as a sports person or their favourite sports character. Everyone including staff entered into the spirit and had a great day.

The Council have brought many suggestions to the attention of the teaching staff in school. We look forward to their next endeavour… The children are very excited about a proposed school magazine which they hope will be on sale in the summer term.
