11-a-side League
STRANMILLIS TAKE A POINT FROM THE DOUBLE-HEADER
Last week, the boys’ football team played Methody Prep and Campbell College Junior School in the 11-a-side league. On Tuesday, a very confident Methody side arrived at the YMCA hoping to build on their success against Stranmillis earlier in the season. The away side were dominant in the first half and went into the break leading by three goals. Determined to avoid a heavy defeat, Stranmillis started the second half much brighter and began to compete in midfield and take a hold of the game. After ten minutes, they got their reward when Thomas Armstrong made a superb run down into the box and crossed for Isaac Jarman to tap in his 4th goal of the season. Sensing the come back was possible, the home side pressed forward and Caleb Bowden scored a fantastic goal into the roof of the net. Despite continued pressure from Stranmillis, the boys were unable to equalise and lost the game 3-2.
On Wednesday, Campbell College Junior School were the visitors to the YMCA. Stranmillis started well and created some early chances. Ten minutes into the first half, Isaac Jarman intercepted a back pass from a Campbell defender and calmly slotted the ball into the corner of the net. Stranmillis looked in control of the game, with the back four of Patrick Hanna, Adam Simms, Ted Linton and Matthew Moran proving to be a very solid defence. In the second half, Campbell created some good chances and equalised after a scramble in the goal mouth. Both teams could have gone on to win the game, but in the end a draw was a fair result. Well done to all the boys involved.
