Stranmillis school council was established in 2003 and is made up of elected representatives from all 14 classes in school. The council is overseen by a pupil chair person and two teachers help with its organisation. The council has its own budget and its brief is to help make Stranmillis a better place for everyone.
The council's first undertaking was to improve the play resources in the playground, this was partly funded through a non-uniform day. As well as that the council has looked at healthy eating- with healthy break days on Tuesday and Thursday and done many events for charity.
The main purpose of the council is pupil empowerment through participation. It also offers pupils an opportunity to develop their emotional and leadership skills.
The new council members for 2009/10 have been chosen and here they are below.
