Cross Country Success
Congratulations to the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams, for making the best possible start to the new season! Both teams finished in 1st place in Round 1 of the Co Antrim qualifier at the Antrim Forum last Thursday.
In the girls’ race, three of the girls finished in the top ten, with Beibhinn Bourke finishing in 2nd place, Sophie Wylie in 7th place and Lauren Kirkpatrick in 9th place. The team beat MCB Prep by three points, winning the qualifier, and giving themselves a great chance to secure a place in the NI final in Round 2 in December.
In the boys’ race, the team had one of the school’s best ever results, with Stranmillis pupils finishing in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Theo Spence was 2nd, Jake Smyth was 3rd and Adam Hanna was 4th. This was an incredible achievement, and Conn Moriarty also made it into the top ten, finishing in 10th place. The team have put themselves in an extremely strong place and are ready for Round 2!
In the girls’ fun run, Ava Carson ran a fabulous race, finishing in 1st place! In the boys’ fun run, two of the boys finished in the top ten, with Jack Dolliver finishing 5th and Ryan Buchanan finishing 7th.
This was a tremendous start to the season for both teams and is testament to the hard work and determination of all the pupils in the squad. I’m also pleased to report that the traybake selection after the race was a good as ever!
Congratulations to all the boys and girls involved.
