Cross Country Winners!
Tue 14 Nov 2023Congratulations to the boys and girls who took part in Round 1 of the Athletics NI Cross Country Competition at The Antrim Forum in October.
In the individual race, Leo Stewart finished in 3rd place overall, and in the girl’s section, Evgenia Dultsev was 1st, Clara Agnew 2nd and Helen Jin 3rd! What a result!
In the main race, I am delighted to report that pupils from Stranmillis won both races. Beibhinn Bourke was 1st in the girls’ race and Jake Smyth was 1st in the boys’ race. Adam Hanna was hot on Jakes’ heels, taking the silver medal. This is a fabulous achievement in what is a very competitive county.
In the team event, both the girls’ and boys’ teams finished in first place overall!
We are very proud of the teams for all their hard work in training, and for their excellent performances in the first races. Congratulations!

Cross Country Success
Mon 17 Oct 2022Congratulations to the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams, for making the best possible start to the new season! Both teams finished in 1st place in Round 1 of the Co Antrim qualifier at the Antrim Forum last Thursday.
In the girls’ race, three of the girls finished in the top ten, with Beibhinn Bourke finishing in 2nd place, Sophie Wylie in 7th place and Lauren Kirkpatrick in 9th place. The team beat MCB Prep by three points, winning the qualifier, and giving themselves a great chance to secure a place in the NI final in Round 2 in December.
In the boys’ race, the team had one of the school’s best ever results, with Stranmillis pupils finishing in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Theo Spence was 2nd, Jake Smyth was 3rd and Adam Hanna was 4th. This was an incredible achievement, and Conn Moriarty also made it into the top ten, finishing in 10th place. The team have put themselves in an extremely strong place and are ready for Round 2!
In the girls’ fun run, Ava Carson ran a fabulous race, finishing in 1st place! In the boys’ fun run, two of the boys finished in the top ten, with Jack Dolliver finishing 5th and Ryan Buchanan finishing 7th.
This was a tremendous start to the season for both teams and is testament to the hard work and determination of all the pupils in the squad. I’m also pleased to report that the traybake selection after the race was a good as ever!
Congratulations to all the boys and girls involved.

Cycle to School Week
Tue 11 Oct 2022A huge thank you to Iain Sneddon, our local Sustrans Active Travel Officer, and to all the parents and pupils who joined in our 'Cycle to School' initiative, which was a great success. Iain delivered some excellent workshop sessions across the school. Helping children to cycle without stabilisers, and developing their cycling skills, were just some of the activities that took place. We continue to encourage all our children to choose an active way of travelling to school, such as walking, cycling or scooting.
